Cambrian Trail for beginner

Hi,

I'm a beginner to MTB'ing and have agreed to ride the Cambrian Trail in four days at the end of September. I have a hardtail MTB with Tioga XC 1.9 on front and Ritchie ZMax 2.1 on the back. As we'll be doing a variation on the 'official' route which will be about 50% tarmac and 50% trail, I wonder if there are better tyres which will make riding on the tarmac sections easier, without making the off-road bits dangerous! I find that the tyres I have are hard going on tarmac (for obvious reasons). I was looking at the Schwalbe Marathon Cross tyres, but am worried that they'll be a disaster on the off-road bits, particularly if it's wet.

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.
snarff.

I've just got some Specialized Crossroads Armadillo Elite for mixed riding....these are puncture resistant as well but not cheap at £25 each.

I'll let you know how i get on with them, i have Tioga XC 2.1 at the moment.
    Cheers, Stu
  • I saw these at the local bike shop, although I was initially confused at the different variations. It would be brilliant if you could report back on their performance. Cheers.
