Cycling in Brittany

Hi,
I'm shortly to purchase a Boardman Comp and also have some free time to go cycling in a couple weeks time so have considered getting Ferry from Plymouth - Roscoff.
Wondering if:
a) A Race bike like the Boardman Comp will be suitable for more 'touring' type cycling (40-50 miles a day for several days) or might a sportive / audax type bike be better (guess I could hire one).
b) Anyone have any experience of touring in Brittany (particularly from Roscoff). Any recommended routes / campsites etc...?
