This morning i thought i would go out for a short ride to scrub up my new GP4000s Tyres.
I plotted a course to and from Hampstead Heath. I used an official map that showed cycles lanes through the park so i though these would be fine.
The path from Nessington Road to Highgate road was lovely. A nice sign to indicate that cycling was permitted etc 8)
I then rode up the hill and rejoined the heath again from Millfield Lane. Again there was a sign posted as "Easy Cycle" to Highgate. I thought this was too nice. Lovely weather, nice scenery then BANG!!. The tarmac ends and the path continued over a large gravel track full of holes, gravel, rocks etc
I could have turned back but continued all the way thinking it may get better, it didn't.
By the time i had reached Spaniards Road my tyres were well and truly scrubbed & every bone felt like it had been shattered.
Can local authorities PLEASE think when they are planning routes. If it is going to be "off road" then say so on the entry sign.
Oh well we live and learn.

Surely it's obvious. If you're going to use these so called "cycle facilities" you'll need a mountain bike, preferably one with full suspension."A recent study has found that, at the current rate of usage, the word 'sustainable' will be worn out by the year 2015"0

But you're riding a 'road' bike, not a £70 cycle path bike.
'Road' bikes should stay on the road.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

Thanks NWLondoner, Im going to put that on my list of "But honey, I have to go out for a ride because........."
And for the love of God, lets not moan about how bad our roads are, unless you want the bare chested, own alcohol brewing bumpkins telling you that they fell into and cycled out of the Cheddar Gorge this morning therefore shut up you soft southerners, blah blah blah0 -

yep i do love a bit of cyclo cross on cycle paths while dodging dog turds and deaf runners/walkers with children.0 -

I agree. I stopped using 'cycle routes' the day I got my road-bike. Even with a mountain bike I hated most of the things.0 -
Well 'scrubbed' in - saved you some time then !0
