At what point do you replace a tube? When there are more patches than original tyre or after a certain number of punctures? Oh and no gloating from the tubeless fraternity please

well my patches don't seem to hold for very long, so usually after a single puncture

  • I change the tubes when I get a puncture, a repair is never as good as brand new- Leisure Lakes have done 4 tubes for £10- can't go wrong!

Have a look at this guide before you go crazy buying dozens of new tubes:

  • When it goes bang lol but seriously depends what sort of riding u do anything rough and ur best to avoid patches and get a new tube

What the hell is the hatred of fixing punctures? What exactly are you basing your theory that a fix is inferior to a new tube? If anything, you have more rubber, therefore making harder to puncture.

I agree 110% yeehaamcgee! It's cheaper, it's better for the environment.

I think it's because they don't know how to do it properly. I admit that I only figured it out after about 10 years of being in this sport... and that was after getting someone's fixed tube back.

People look at me funny when I say I fix tubes... they'll respond somewhat disappointedly: "yeah I noticed that" to which I reply "well did the tube fail at the patch?"... and most times they don't even know.

The only time I throw an inner tube now is:
    -when it has exploded
-when you can't sticka patch on the valve stem
-or if the valve becomes faulty

Actually, some cheap tubes leak air slowly through what I'd call micro-holes. Fix those, with a traditional patch and they're even better than new! :)

I never fix a snake bit but will fix if it's a thorn.

On my first rigid MTB bike, 6 or 7 years ago, I've had about 20 punctures on the front, and about 10 at the rear tire. And I've never replaced the inner tubes.

I usualy replace the bike before I get a chance to change the inner tubes.

I'm tempted to say the "throw them away after one puncture" is indicative of today's disposable society, but that'd make me sound like a right grumpy old man.

I noticed I had about six patches on the spare tube in my rucksack yesterday though, and I think it might be time to bin it.

I seem to have had less success whe fixing snake bit (pinches) for some reason. The holes are bigger for one thing and of course there's two of them. Habit, I guess, is the main reason though.

They're the only punctures I seem to fix these days  Latex tubes for me next pay day.
I can't believe the amount of people that seem to just chuck them

Decathlon has some pretty cheap tubes in my neck of the woods (a two pack for only €2  )
