Need to know a few things
Finally done it, bought a Shimano Triple Ultegra group set to fit onto my steel framed Ron Cooper Frame! Now I need to know how you tighten the crank set, ie there does'nt appear to be any adjustmets on the cups as in the original crank set. And also the original gear levers were on the frame down tube and now will be STI type brake/gear levers, will I need a brazed on band with guides for the cables/sheaths or can you buy a banded on type or any other method? Any other problems/solutions you can anticipate I'll have, all suggestions welcome. 8)   :?:

You'll be able to get a band-on front mech - it's most likely 28.6mm but do measure it if you can, or take it to your LBS if you can't.
Make sure your bottom bracket shell faces are flat and clean, and clean the threads out thoroughly with some old towel and lots of GT40. If they look ropey, you can get the shell tapped and faced at a good LBS.
You'll need the proper tool and a torque wrench to install the new cups properly.
Lots of people don't bother with a torque wrench, but then lots of people have creaking bottom brackets after no time at all, so take your pick on that one. Again, LBS job if you are in any doubt.
See www.parktool.com repair help and shimano's technical documents on their website for everything else you need to know.0 -
The front derailler is a clamp on and fits onto the frame ok. Had a quick look at the mentioned web site and will have to read carefully through it I think. Don't think I've got any spacers for the cranks but have got what looks like some kind of seal that slips over crank shaft, not sure which side this will go on?  :P :shock:0

Sorry, I misread your original post. You mean cable stops like these?
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Sunt ... p-1372.htm
You will need some but my suggestion would be phone SJS to make sure you get the right bit.
Apart from that have a good read of Park, also Sheldon Brown's site. Good luck with it!0 -
Your link looks like what I need for the top of the down tube but I'm not sure about the guide/arm type thingy on it, is it maybe for the bottom of the down tube at the bottom bracket? Will phone them as I'll need the tools for fitting cups and crank nut. Anyway have fitted brakes, front derailler, back derailler and been on shimano web site for fitting of chainring. Bought new wheels from merlincycles.co.uk , shimano RS10's and fitted cassette, tyres and put wheels on.
Here's another thing I need to know, my Trek bottom bracket appears to have play in it took the allen screws out of both cranks but my crank removal tool does'nt reach to extract them, Do I need a different tool and is the bottom bracket adjustable, it's a Bonteger chainring. 8) :P    :arrow:0 -
Carring on the need to know, does anybody know how to fit Ultegra gear/brake shifters? :P    :roll:0

levers fitted, found the allen key inside the hood, and cables run. Just got to get a tool for tightening bottom bracket and fit the cable stops, fit the cfhainring and cranks and set it all up. even the way the bike feels just now (brakes fitted and adjusted) can't wait to get on it in anger. it even feels lighter sharper? than the Trek. :shock:0
