  • Don't know about the Dura Ace but i've had speedplays on both my bikes for a while now and i think they're excellent. Being double sided they're very easy to get in an out of (this has got me out of trouble at more than a few junctions); very light; loads of float which is good for my knees (float is adjustable down to nothing if you get the zero versions) and they look very minimal which i like.

The only downsides are that they're not the cheapest and the cleats are pricey (though they do last a lot longer than plastic ones) and they probably require a little more maintainence than other pedals.

Speedplay Speedplay Speedplay Speedplay Speedplay Speedplay Speedplay Speedplay

Does that answer your question? They are superb pedals, I converted from Ultegra SPD-L's and would never go back. Which ones are you thinking of getting? My experience is only with the Zeros.

out of curiosity ... why have you ruled out Time and Look?

I used to ride SPD-SL ... nice, but a bit heavy. Don't look so good with carbon cranks either.

I considered speedplay ... nice weight, but was a bit concerned about maintenance ... even if it's easy I just didn't want yet another thing to maintain.

Ended up going for Look Keo Carbon Ti ... 2/3 the weight of Dura Ace but otherwise similar in operation
