hi there looking for some advise. i have been having back problems and i finally thought it was sorted until today when riding my back suddenly locked up again leaving having to ride 12 miles home on top of the bars. i was recommened when i bought the bike a trek 1.7 to buy a flat bar road bike like a sirrus but as my back was getting better i decided to go against this advise. i was wondering how much do you think it would cost to convert? can you use a 10 speed set up flat barred or do you think i should swap for something like a sirrus

any help would be great

rob

Don't be too hasty converting to flat bars - what you may need is higher bars rather than a different type. 10 speed on a flat bar setup is not easy to achieve either.

Have you considered a riser stem, or even an adjustable one like this?

    Shimano do 10spd flat-bar shifters

You'll need some, and some non-V brake levers (and the obvious stuff - grips, bars etc.)

Wot size is your Trek? If it's a 52 you could always sell it to me and start again.

to save trying to convert i would also consider a swap for something like a sirrus of similar spec.

Only one model AFAIAA and Shimano claim you need to change the front derailleur too.
