I was reading a few reviews on these pedals. Are these the ones where the axle has snapped off causing some hairy moments?0

i`ve been using look keo classics the last 6 months - only ever rode in trainers until i bought my look kg461 . haven`t had any problems with them , in fact i`d recommend them although i can`t compare them to other brands. all i can say with some confidencce is that they make a hell of a difference to my performance.0

Do they have a serial number on them or are we supposed to remember exactly when we bought them ? What if they were sat in a shop for 6 months before purchase ?

Can't help you there but make sure you wear full body armour, a full face lid and several condoms if you ride it in the meantime.
May also be worth strapping a bodyguard-trained gnome to the downtube in case the pedals try and take you by suprise.0 -

Good point, when it comes to gnomes do you think aero or weight is more important? I'd hate to get the wrong one for the function...0 -

If you read the article http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/p ... dals-18041 it explains how to check for production dates on your pedals. Great QC to be honest, not seen many other items with any date stamps on them0 -

I snapped one of my LOOK pedals coming down heavily. If it wasn't for a mate on another forum I wouldn't have had them replaced. In fairness to look though through my mate I ended up with the titanium axle ones which seem very good although I still have niggling doubts when climbing.
If anyone has any of these then send them back for replacement.
Over the years Ive snapped a few pedals all left hand side ones must have a bionic left foot  the worst was in a sea front crit and thankfully didn't bring anyone down with me goodness knows how.0 -
Snapped a pair last month in the Alps while climbing, my shop have been about as much use as a chocolate teapot at helping me so far.

Well, Googling around I've found the USA recall notice, which says there are 80,000 of them out there (40,000 pairs) and that
"Look Cycle has received 14 reports of incidents with broken pedals, including 7 injuries which resulted in scrapes, cuts, contusions, elbow pain, and a knee injury."
- dunno if that's 80,000 worldwide or in the USA, similarly the 14 incidents, but either way it's a statistically tiny number and we don't know if these pedals had been crashed or damaged, had heavy usage and no maintenance, etc.
I think I'll not panic too much, although Look say
"The steel axle inside the pedal can break, posing a fall hazard to cyclists"
and
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycle pedals"
Oooh dear, sounds serious !
If the replacement axles are due at UK dealers at the end of the month, I suspect I might just carry on using them and hope I live long enough to get to the end of the month to get them fixed.
I have three pairs on various bikes, so rather than pull all of them off and go back to the toe-clip pedals which came with the bikes (they should be OK as they're unused !), I might just take them one-at-a-time to the dealer...0 -
