Oh my god... Post Devil Ride and car journey home my a*se was like a Christmas Turkey pre basting and cooking.... On arriving home my son gave me a Toblerone as a congrats award (Good lad)and my daughter a tube of Witch Doctor (mummy's little girl).
Popped in the shower which was heaven then washed the nether regions etc... applied said Witch Doctor and I think they could hear my screaming 150 miles back in Builth Wells.
Grabbed the neccessary Vaseline, and back to soothing land of comfort.
Anyone know the best way to prevent Chaffing other than a decent pair of Bibshorts rather than the £20 pair I was wearing????

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

    Assos cream or an alternative?

Might seem a silly question but were the shorts clean? I once picked up the wrong pair of bib tights (those waiting for the wash) and was sore as hell down below for days.
I now bury the cycling clothing I've just worn at the bottom of the washing basket as I could live without that happening again.

+1 for Assos cream. But seriously get some decent bibs!
  • I don't really understand the benefits of bib shorts over plain old shorts. Is it just that the bib element keeps everything from slipping downwards? :?

Holds the chamois in place better, doesn't restrict your breathing as some shorts can do. Basically just comfier all round. Once you've tried you won't go back, kinda like going clipless really!

I tried and went back to normal shorts after an episode of nearly filling my kecks trying to get
the damm things off in a French toilet.

It's not easy going for a pee in them. Must be awful to have an attack of the gravy poos while wearing bibs.

the only bib shorts i hav ever had & will buy from now on - fi uno assos i got from ribble tho small is the only size left at the moment.
  • I can't believe someone questioned my cleanliness. The wife is very good at the washing, I'll have you know and can be hired out at a reasonable rate locally.
However, in line with poo stories, my bottom was rather dirty on that day... maybe that was it???
Seriously, thanks for the advice guys, I think an investment in some decent Bib shorts is definitely the answer.

I wasn't questioning your cleanliness, merely wondering if you, as I did inadvertantly, tried to stretch a pair for a second ride.

I do apologise as my phrasing could've been better and I can see how it could have been taken out of turn. Sorry.
  • No problemo amigo !! I was just messing around. Your info was really valuable and I appreciate your help.
Funnily enough nasty rash has now appeared on my forehead post dirty helmet wearing, so I am probably not the cleanest Road Biker around anyway.
    Enjoy the weekend.

    What is 'chaffing' ?

Is it a bit like 'chafing' ?
