The irony of the school summer holidays

I woke up late this morning and in order to get to work on time, and I'm ashamed to admit this, I got into my cage and got there faster.
If the schools weren't out I would have been later still in the car.
This generally only seems to be the case during the summer hols, which is generally also the most favourable time to ride the bike.
Wish I didn't need the car for work occasionally. I'd get rid of it if I could.

I too noticed how incredibly quiet the roads were, when I took the Moto to work, not that I get held up much, but the roads seemed empty compared to school days.Considering shaving, or even using the wife's epilator, should I do it?0

But it was such a beautiful day today! I also woke up late, and thought sod it, it's way too nice for the tube. Not too hot, bright sunshine, lovely!0 -

I know, I'm gutted.
I would've been about half an hour late for work though, as it was I got here on time - it really does make that much difference at the moment.
BTW, did you ever get a definitive answer as to your gear length?"Impressive break"

Not yet! I'm hopeless, apologies.
I will try to count today, any good ideas to make it easier? is there a way to calculate it from teh diameter of the cogs themselves? I've started counting the teeth a few times, but grown tired of the hassle...
and wow, that's a big time difference. On my route biking is faster than my other option - the tube. So it's only ever travelling for work or plain laziness that stops me!0 -
There is no easier way, unless you find that some thoughtful manufacturer has stamped the number of teeth somewhere on the chainring. At the back you'll probably have to count em off.
My route is fairly rural, only the last two or three miles are in the city centre, so in the car it's 40, 50 or 60 mph all the way (pretty much the same route as on the bike except for a bit of dual carriageway that I avoid on the bike).
25 minutes on a clear day like today, 45 - 50 on the bike depending on the route. Once the schools are back it'll be over an hour in the car with the bike times unchanged."Impressive break"
