helps if you shift into middle middle before removing the rear wheel, also if you have issues, take the qr out, makes it much easier to fit in.
Pulling the derraileur right back helps immeasurably too.0 -
I find that shifting to the smallest rear cog and largest front, and slackening the QR right off helps with refitting.
This is the technique I use....
* Use a rag to hold the derailler away from the wheel (pull down and outwards) and take up any slack in the chain (being on the biggest front helps here) and place the axle end between the upper chain run and the derailler to prevent it getting snagged.
* Raise the wheel concentrating on the caliper/disc so that the disc slides between the calipers pads.
* Once the disc is between the pads, concentrate on the axle itself and slide the wheel up 'til it's seated properly in the dropouts.
* As you've been holding the derailler out of the way throughout, you should find that the chain's seated on one of the smallest two cogs itself!
* Holding the QR lever at 45º, wind in the QR nut 'til it begins to grip, then close the QR lever and check it's tensioned.
If you're using the Shimano Shadow mech it's that much more difficult, as the mech sits so far inboard, but the technique still works for me0 -
Cheers guys, glad of the sound advice
