Ive had my bike about 5months and in that time ive had 2 punctures and an exploding tyre - whats going on man. Ive got 700x38c tyres. I know that the punctures couldnt really be avoided as one was a nail and the other a slither of glass. Are the tyre sizes more prone to punctures with them being (obviously) not as thick and chunky as your average mountain bike type ? I have a Carrera Crossfire - ok not the best or greatest bike in the world but it does me just fine for the riding i do.

  • 2 punctures in 5 months, I'd settle for that.
I was getting one a week (sometimes 2) till I got some Vittoria tyres, only 3 since I fitted them, and that is 4 months ago.

That doesn't seem to bad, although with such big tyres you might hope for less. It's always worth spending on good tyres with kevlar reinforcement though.

  • I think that the kids of Birmingham make a hobby of smashing glass in the road where cyclists travel so I suffered from puntures badly, but got some of the kevla lined tyres and used self sealing inner tubes (maybe a bit belts and braces). I haven't had a puncture for about 6 months, until last night . Both more expensive but well worth it saving on time and effort.
