Anyone else get this? Bloody annoying! Feels like Mike Oldfield is having a concert in my right ear canal. Drives me nuts at night!

yeah i get it but rarely, i find covering my nose and blowing and poping the ears makes it go away. mine usually sounds like a low volume high pitched constant fire alarm, alien implant on the blink i bet ya!

In all seriousness, no, I don;t suffer from Tinnitus, if I did, my career would be over.
However, I know a drummer who started suffering tinnitus. He's learnt to control it quite well, and can still manage a few sessions, except he has to use some seriously soundproof headphones, and listen, in them, at a low volume.

It amazes me how some people take hearing for granted.
Both my parents work in a very noisy power station, and recently, I've noticed that my mother has been putting the telly volume up and up over a few years.

When I asked her if she was wearing any form of hearing protection at work, she looked as though I'd asked her the stupidest question ever, and replied that since she was sat inside a minibus, she didn't need to
I told her that in my professional opinion, the noise levels inside the minibus were probably around twice the level required to cause permament damage, but she refused to believe me.
(I also used to work in the same place, so I know what the conditions are like)

On the hearing side of things I had to speak, sorry deal, with a guy today who was deaf and also couldn't speak. I had to write everything down and vice versa with him. I was thinking how strange it would be driving a car, not hearing the engine or other cars and stuff, having all your senses does go overlooked I agree, its just that they are always there, so I guess you learn to be ungrateful of them?

It really saddens me that people are so careless of their hearing, when there's so many beautiful sounds to hear, that can have the capacity to stir up long lost memories, tear-jerking emotions, and euphorious sensations.
Especially when you can buy a pretty decent set of musician's earplugs for as little as a fiver, that will still let you enjoy live gigs, or clubs, without causing any serious deficiencies in what you hear.

    I don't think that's tinnitus.
I've been taught, that the ringing in your ears after being somewhere loud, is the death knell of the related nerves in your ears, and that it's the last time you'll ever hear that particular frequency ever again
However, this seems a contentious point, and many professionals I've talked to about the subject offer conflicting views on this phenomenon, and some say that it simply isn't true.

Tinnitus, on the other hand, is basically your ears going mad (it's related to your nervous system, rather than any mechanical damage to the ear). you don't have to be exposed to deafening noises to sufffer from tinnitus, and I know of several people who have amasingly accute hearing, yet still suffer from tinnitus.
    Tinnitus is also occasionally mis-diagnosed.
