Hello All,
My wife and I fancy going to Wales for a week at the end of September.
Could anyone recommend a place to go that is fairly easy to start with please and also, some decent accommodation in that area that will allow bikes too.
Cheers

Sparrowleg.... Coed Y Brenin.... easy You're kidding.
I was there at the start of the Winter (sorry meant Summer, keep forgetting) in June and it was rather challenging  Fun though, managed to do the beast and Dragon's back but would hardley call it a begginers trail

The Yr Afon bit is easy and if you push over the bad bits (like i did  ) it isn't that bad lol

Hi Jim,
While Coed Y Brenin is a fantastic trail centre it is not really easy.
If you are looking at North Wales then Betws Y Coed might be a good place to stay. Its quite a nice little town with plenty of pubs, restaurants etc and I'm pretty sure you will find some decent bike accomodation there if you have a search on the net.
Near Betws Y Coed you have the Marin trail which is not too technically difficult although you will have to be reasonably fit to get around it. There are also loads of 'natural' rides to tackle around the surrounding area. Check out

You will also be within a 40 minute drive of Llandegla trail centre which is a great place for beginners. There are also some decent rides around the Clwyds:-

Another vote for Llandegla here. I'd say its the easiest trail centre in North Wales. Even the Black route is easier than anything at Coed Y Brenin (Minus Yr Afon obviously)
I've done the MBR at Coed Y Brenin and i'd say its probably the most technically demanding trail i've ridden.
The Blue and Red trails at Llandegla should be fine for what you want. Blue takes an hour to do at a leisurely pace, while the Red should take you 2 - 2 1/2 hours, with neither having anything that challenging. Both trails are flowing with only a handful of climbs.
Unfortunatley i don't know of any accommodation in that area
I haven't ridden the Marin Trail in Betws Y Coed so i cant really comment on that, although i have heard you need a good level of fitness for it.
I have ridden Penmachno though, which is just down the road from Betws Y Coed. I'd say its a very physically demanding trail - alot more so than Llandegla, bit still not as technical as Coed Y Brenin.
Hope this helps0 -
thanks for all the help, I shall get on the web and see what's about on the accommodation front.
Thanks again, much appreciated.

A bit late on this topic, but if you fancy mid-Wales, I was recommended a holiday cottage - sleeps six (see www.cottagesdirect.com/waa563) near Llandrindod Wells. If you call the owner (Maggie, on 01982 570418) and quote PEDALS, she will do a discount on what CottagesDirect charge.

If you're after something not too tough, I'd recommend Llandegla too - the red is nice and flowing, and there's also a blue route as well. I'm not sure about accomodation - we stayed at Chatford House B&B just outside of Shrewsbury, about 30 miles away. Close enough to get to Llandegla easily, but also close to the Shropshire hills and the Long Mynd...and the master bedroom has a huuuuuge bath to collapse into after a long ride.0
