anyone know of any cable outers that are not prone to rusting? The Dura Ace ones do my head in always having to change them and having poor braking when they are on the way out..

Aren't the cable outers plastic coated?

If you want to fit some better cable try tranfil, wiggle sell them. All stainless construction and cf/kevlar outers. I've not had any problems, even off road.

If you're on about gear cables then Gore ride-on lightweight are made of non-metallic stuff, like kevlar or something. Expensive but much better than standard stuff (lighter shifting etc.)

Gore also do some brake cables but they might be metal inside...

The thing about sealed cables is that the inner is separated from the outer by a plastic hose, so you won't have any of the problems you describe.
