2 days ago, my parked & locked bike was hit by a car which then seemingly drove off without leaving any contact details. Fortunately, it was witnessed and I was given the make/colour/registration of the car and these have been passed to the police. I'll be taking the bike to my LBS tomorrow to get the frame/rear wheel checked, as it was hit hard enough to have paint from the car "tattooed" on my frame and to also deform the railing it was locked to. Any advice on how long I should give the police before checking for progress, etc, as the bike's my main form of transport apart from walking and it's a royal pain in the a$$.

Mucho thanks

(I would've posted sooner, but I can't log in at home for some reason)

  • Unlucky.

I would imagine you shouldnt have to wait long. They will contact the driver and should get back in touch with you. Hopefully the driver wont have been going to the airport to begin a round the world tour.

And re: the log in problems, I had that too. Delete cookies and temp files and it should let you back on again.

Chase them already - all they have to do is give you the name and insurance details of the car's registered keeper and you can make a claim against their insurance.

The police won't do anything else in these circumstances as there was no personal injury.

No joy yet, the assigned officer hadn't started work when I phoned.

Update; LBS says the frame's knackered
