Tubing your tubes

When I get a new frame, I'm going to want to protect it from the thieving bastards that we share the air with and also protect it from knock and scratches. To do this I'm thinking of wrapping the main tubes with innertubes, top, down, seat and chain & seat stays. How easy is this to do? Do you wrap a tube as is with the valve cut off so you've got double thickness or cut the tube along its length so that you have something 2" wide but less thinner than above.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I never see the point in this... are you hoping to prevent it from getting nicked? If I were a thief a bike covered in inner tubes would say "I'm a nice bike underneath"...

I imagine the type of bike thief who can break a good lock in a quick time is reasonably knowledgeable about bikes and would recognise a quality bike from its components and frame shape not the name on the top tube!

Knocks and scratches are also IMHO inevitable on a commuter bike, and the sooner you christen a new with a few the less painful it will be when it happens.

Finally I question the wisdom of buying an expensive frame and adding 1/2kg of unecessary rubber to it!

    YMMV - Rufus.
