I've measure my steered length and is approx 210mm. Is it possible to fit a second hand fork (if I find one at a good price  ) with a slightly different length? eg. 190mm? What is the max I could change by without changing the characteristics of the bike?

cheers

how many spacers are you running?

that is the limit you can remove but then brake levers may catch on the top tube.

Depends how many stem spacers you have. If 2cm worth, then yes.

Basically, when the fork is fitted with stem and spacers present, the stem (or spacers) should be 3-5mm higher than the steerer so that the top cap can function properly.

A shallower stem is another option, or a headset with a smaller stack height (o reduce amount of steerer needed)

But assuming the stem and headset will remain the same, then you'll have to look at hose spacers. My gut feeling is it will be too short ;-)

thanks for the quick replies, I've a lot to learn!!!

There are some spacers on there - 3 I reckon off the top of my head, probably about 25mm in total.
