  • I have a pair of these which are very fast rolling on road, havn't used them in 3 years but they are great for road / towpath.

Cheers they look just the ticket!

I assume the difference between the EX and non-EX is just the centre tread, the EX looks like a continuous strip and would likely be better on the road than the non-EX?

  • not sure of the difference but its the ex that i have. Yes the centre tread is like having slicks and super fast (for a mountain bike). I would recommend them for what you mentioned you are doing.

    spesh crossroads armadillo elite.

lovely tyres as long as you stay away from mud and no punctures to worry about, hav'nt had a puncture in over 1000 miles on mine :)

Yes also looking at these now. :)

How do you find the on road performance?

compared to the tyres i had before they're alot better on the road, nice dual compund too, softer on the outside so wearing quite evenly, though there's hardly any wear yet :)

they're better at 45-50 psi on the road but that makes off-road rather harsh so i run them at about 40psi. like i said good tyres just keep them away from mud unless you like sliding around alot hehe and mud up-hill is tough as i can't stand on the pedals as they just spin so have to stay seated. but that's not what they're for, road and hardpack.

    Cheers, they sound perfect.

I assume you just use the inner tube the bike already has? I havent got the bike yet but its fitted with Tioga Factory Extreme-XC 26" X 1.95" tyres, size is same as the crossroads so should fit fine.
Oh and are they directional? dont want to mess up the fitting!

the tyres are 1.90? in size so your tubes should be fine i would guess. yes they are directional the same direction for both tyres but they are marked with a big arrow telling you which way they go, looking from above the bike the centre tread looks like lots of arrow heads and they point forward.

they are snug to fit so use a couple of proper tyre levers, plastic rubber coated steel preferably and you could use a bit of lube on the rim to ease it, though i did'nt need to when i fitted them.
