Lovely. When I watched the road race I'd assumed it was an special paint job on a current bike..

I don't think they'll be selling the carbon fibre version Nicole Cooke rode on Sunday (Pro Race i think) - it'll cost well over two grand for the F&F

  • I bet they will - but it may be a watered down version to reduce the cost.

I'm sure Stan Boardman wil want to wring every bit of marketing he can from her win.

He's always said he was going to introduce a carbon framed bike at somepoint.

If its anything like his other offerings it will be well though out and good value.

Whether or not people have an issue with Halfords is another matter.
  • The TT frame is already available and it costs £2,499 and i think the road frame will be a similar cost. they come under the brand Boardman Elite http://www.boardmanelite.com/
which i don't think has anything to do with Halfords

Oh gimme! I was planning a Soloist Carbon for next year (already got the bits together) - now I'm gonna have to buy one of these (if the missus lets me, that is)!

BTW, if you like Cervelos, but not the paintjobs, check out Hot Tubes: http://hottubes.com/ShopWebSite/Welcome.html

To be fair most of those custom paint jobs look worse than the standard cervelo ones.

i agree, some of them are quite classy but a lot are really OTT for my taste but then eing custom you could of course have anything you want and its all looks very high quality either way

We were told it'd be closer to £3K for the complete bike: http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/n ... ared-17905

Boardman bikes are distributed through Halfords Bikehut branded outlets and as I understood it that was as far as the relationship between the two went. Or is the boardman elite range outside of that agreed. Halfords must be gleefully awaiting it if they are going through Bikehut stores seeing as they got a 5% increase in cycle sales last year in part thanks to the Boardman range being available through them.

The spec looks pretty good. SRAM Red groupset is an interesting choice and shows it's making inroads into the top end of the market, plus decent Ritchey finishing and it sounds like the frameset alone should be around the 1500 mark. I'd be quite tempted given the groupset and frame combination, regardless of what wheels it comes with.

Apparantly the S3 frame weighs more becuse white paint is heavy

and looking at Cervelos website it looks like they've got a lot more medals than Boardmans 1 gold

Well Cervelo have been around for a few more years than the Boardman range. To me - they both look like nice bikes.

This is the full cervelo description

While watching the Olympic Games, you may notice a number of Cervélos with a new paint scheme in Olympic-themed colours. The Olympics have special rules for logo size and quantity, and while this is usually solved by taping over logos, we felt that something more professional was in order for these athletes at the pinnacle of their sporting career. So we made these special Olympic frames for most of them (though some who were selected very late, as well as those athletes that we don’t even know use Cervélos, unfortunately did not receive one).

But that’s not all, some riders are actually riding a new frame, the S3. The S3 is the new top model in our aerodynamic road frame range. It features new chainstays and seatstays, that are both more aerodynamic and offer more vertical compliance. It also features a new cable routing system, that combines an entry point behind the stem with internal cable stops on the downtube (you can see the black stop on the downtube, this will be painted in production). This offers a clean cable entry without the problem of other cable routing systems that enter behind the stem, but which run the complete housing through the frame. The latter makes the whole set-up quite heavy (200g of extra housing) and the friction makes shifting and braking less than optimal.

And, at 990g for the standard version (and a little bit more for the Olympic version as white is a heavy paint color), the S3 remains as light as you have come to expect from our aero road frames.

You will be able to see the S3 in use under Fabian Cancellara and several of his team mates, some of the Cervélo-Lifeforce riders and the main triathlon contenders. More technical info on the S3 will become available in the next few weeks, both on our website and in éNews
