Mains Conditioner

All you HI-Fi enthusiasts and home cinema freaks, anyone tried a mains conditioner? I'm considering shelling out a measly £20 on the Tacima one that WHF rated recently, but I left the flat earth society a while ago.....although I know that the QED OFC speaker cables I bought made a noticeable (I didn't say huge) difference, bi-wiring not so sure. My ageing Linn LP12 might benefit, though since it has the valhalla power supply it might not....

I've not tried one of those, but when I rebuilt my house, I specced 4 seperate circuits for the Hi-fi, each ending ina dedicated unswitched MK single socket. I've convinced myself it sounds a lot nbetter than having everything plugged into a four-way. (And I have an ageing LP12 too!)0

My old man's recently attached his kit to some serious Russ Andrews conditioners and reckons it has made a huge difference.
I use separate power supply units which have made a massive difference and I'm keen to give mains conditioning a go, but would probably go for something more reasonably priced.
I had bi-wired my system for the last 10 years. However, when I upgraded my kit, the guy in the shop recommended going for some better quality single wire and then buying a pair of Chord jumpers for the bi-wire terminals. The sound is now far punchier than it was. I think that bi-wiring can make things over-clinical (which is fine if that's your thing).0 -
i am running a couple of Supra mains filter and anti surge blocks with shielded leads to the kit. cant say good or bad.
for 20 notes i would see what your ears say."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Ah this takes me back a bit. Few years ago I worked for a hi end hifi retailer selling the usual stuff, Musical Fidelity, Linn, Marantz, Mordaunt Short, Nadd (trying to remember these names off the top of my head)
It got to the stage where I had better things to do with my life that stand in a demo room while a punter made me try every single make of speaker cable we stocked for best part of a day. I used to be the same, that mad about it that my living room was a shrine to all things audio and only the very best would do.
Now I hardly own any of it, the reason being, I'd rather be out on my bike than worried that my mains is dirty and needs a good polish and I need a super earth taken directly from the earths core. It got to obsesive for me and unhealthy.....now Im just obsesive about bikes0 -

same as antooony
worked for a high end manufacturer in the flat earth hifi world
almost 10 years
tried all kinds of supports widgets and conditioners (for free) . The conditioners if they work at all just act as a subtle tone control.
a tale of diminishing returns
the only good thing about the decline in high end hifi is the inevitable demise in the snake oil salesmen like russ a .
got out years ago
got a bike got a life

Blimey, who would have guessed at all that despair, eve anguish behind the ever enthusiastic smile of the demo room salesman..
I stil have a couple of LP's that have small black sticky triangular shaped material stuck near the the cut out in the centre, that matched two similar bits stuck near the dust cap on the bas driver of my speakers, and one on the cover of the amps mains plug. According to What Hi Fi at the time they were some miracle improvement for cleaning the sound up! and they were free! and they didnt work! Now I know that a decent turntable will sound as good if not better to some ears (including mine) than a similar priced CDP(unless you actually want to shake the ouse with LF), but that was simply ridiculous...0 -

Might have to make them work a bit harder for my pounds next time.
I just walk in and buy "Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I prefer Richer sounds - they take the p1ss out of the customers there which is frankly refreshing.0
