Anyone know of any easy to use (free!!) route planning software that can be used to create GPX files for my GPS phone. I'm fed up of getting lost!
It would be nice if the routes on bikeradar could be saved as GPX files, if theres anyone listening!!

+ 1 for bikeroutetoaster - it's brilliant and works like a dream on my Garmin

wow, I've just tried it. It's amazing. Thanks for the link. However to save routes etc you have to register and I can't find the "register" link/button/hyperlink anywhere. Been to the "help" page and its not there.nor is it on the "course creator" page. Help please as I appear to be missing the ble*ding obvious, obviously.
2 minute grovels can sometimes be a lot longer..tho' shorter on a lighter bike :-)

Any suggestions on which Garmin model to get (don't have GPS on my donkey-powered phone), or any other makes to consider?0

The Edge 305 is brilliant and should be available quite cheaply now that people are upgrading to the 605/705. Best thing I ever got for my bike.0

205 or 305 (with HR) are great value.Rich0

I've been using this & it's great.
(Although you can't load the KML into a turn-by-turn direction route in nokia maps)0 -
www.mapmyrun.com works well.
also I would recommend the armin edge 305 with all the toys - try handtec.co.uk0 -
You can download BikeRadar routes, and create your own, at Bikely.com, which is where our routes come from.
Tighter integration between the two is coming.John Stevenson0 -
Slightly off subject, but I am struggling to get info on downloading a route onto a Forerunner 305.
Is it possible?
Anyone help?Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

The Forerunner manual implies[1] you can create courses with Garmin Training Centre and load them into the device.
If you download a route you may need to use www.gpsvisualizer.com to convert it from GPX to CRS format.
However, I'm guessing here as I haven't used a Forerunner or the Edge 305 it seems to resemble in functions.
[1] Nice to see that it's not just the Edge 705 manual that's rubbishJohn Stevenson0 -
Ahhh - CRS format.
I have a GPX file, so this might be part of the problem.
As you say, the manual 'implies' you can load courses, but actually only tells you how to plot your route as you go.
Thanks, I'll have a look at this tonight.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

What is a MBCRS file - is this compatible with the forerunner?Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

As I understand it, MB is MotionBased, Garmin's route/workout logging site. CRS is a Garmin course file.
So and MB CRS *should* work with the Forerunner.
Same disclaimer as above though - I have no experience with Garmin widgets before the 705.John Stevenson0
