Saris Bones car rack

I'm thinking of getting a boot mounted bike rack. Something that I can store in the boot when i'm riding a trail, but easy to set up when I drive home etc. I've done away with a roof mounted carrier, and I don't want to fit a towing ball.
Has anyone got one? Are they any good? Do they stop the bike swinging back and forth possibly hitting the pedals against the bootlid?
Cheers.

Can you open the boot with the rack attached? Or do you have to dismantle it all first?Specialized Rockhopper '07

Had a Bones 2. You have to take the rack off to open boot but simple operation. I only got rid of mine because it wasn't a great fit for my Yeti and my mates Heckler. Would recommend them though. If it's not a Yeti, it's not worth riding!0

I had one, its IMO the best rack out there.... But, you may need a 'false' crossbar to fit some frames to it. Saris make one, as do other companies. Holds the bike very well indeed, only got rid of mine, as I bought a bigger car and it fits in the boot easily- which also gives me a portable changing room- which is handy going by this summer......0

I've got the Bones 3 and it is a great rack. Have travelled 100's of miles with up to 3 bikes on the back. You can open the boot with bikes on it - just! Obviously it is pretty heavy and wouldn't really recommend it, but I have had to on occasion to properly shut the boot and stop the boot open light from flashing :oops:0

I agree - I have a Bones 3 and it holds bikes rock solid. Add a clipped bungee to stop the bars turning and wheels spinning, and you wouldn't know it wasn't welded onto the car.0
