Noticed a few pedal reviews in bikes & gear bit. What was the verdict on the road bike pedals?

Pedals are a bit like the Shimano vs Campag debate.

You'll get various people coming on saying that they use brand A and they're great, all the rest are rubbish.
And then people saying that brand A are rubbish and they use brand B which are the best.
And more people saying that brand A and B are both rubbish and they use brand C which are the best.
    etc
    etc

Not trying to discourage you, but on here no-one will agree...

At £17 a pair the best value are the Shimano 540's (?) at Ribble. A bit plasticy looking but still ok.

Next up are the 105's whick look just like the Ultegra/Dura Ace and the weight difference is negligable. Ok, the bearings are better, but bang for buck diminishes rapidly.

I decided the 540's were just too cheap, and went for the 105's. They are £31 ish at Wiggle, but then told they were sold out and I can't wait a month!
Ended up getting Ultegra from Ribble at £44. Wiggle had them at a daft £64 (yet identical but for colour ice grey Ultegra at £44).

To be honest, I'd have settled for any of the above! They have a wider area of contact than Look, and the cleats last longer.

And I agree that you will never get a straight answer! Look at weight v cost v any offers, and just pick one! As you can see, I ended up with more than I wanted, but what the heck!
105 are defiantely the best value as you'd be pushed to feel or see any difference between those and the top model.

For a very well balanced and favourable review of Time RXS pedals, which also covers pedal selection issues, have a look at:

    http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/featur ... dals.shtml

His conclusion, which is also mine having used the system for a few years now, is that while they never absolutely shine in one particular area, they offer an unbeatable combined package.

Interesting comment in the article mentioned above about 'titanium spindles' feeling flexible underfoot. Anybody experienced this themselves or know of any other sources referring to titanium spindles in pedals only being suitable for lighter riders.
