Am I the only person in the world who cannot ride with no hands on the handlebars? :? It looks so easy! And yet if I tried I know I would end up in a ditch (or similar). Is anyone else as unbalanced...?

Me too. I can't go in a straight line with my hands on the handlebars.

  • It's ok. I got back after a ride yesterday, tried to unclip and fell off in my own drive. My only consolation is that it was 8am on a Saturday and the rest of the street was still in bed!

I can freewheel with no hands. All starts to go to hell when the legs start moving.

    I can do it

I even managed to teach my 12? year old sister how to do it, for under a second at a time because she is a muppet.

That makes me feel great. oops:

Sadly it's not a bike specific thing either. I'm the same on my both my MTBs as the Allez and that's been sufficient to prevent me from even trying it on the full carbon roadie.

    In essence, I'm sh!t.
  • admittedly an mtb'er, so may be more stable, but i can go no handed from home to work
(3miles), so long as i feel fit and the lights dont go against me

but work is setting up on the local market at 4:30 am, so no traffic

The further the centre of your front wheel from the head tube, the harder it is to ride no hands due to somethign I can't place my finger on right now.

I can ride no hands on my Allez, but really struggle on my 140mm travel Specialized Pitch.

it's something to do with head angles and turning moments if I remember correctly. But then again some people just have very little balance by nature

    Can't do it!! :(
Tried on a couple of times but the near-falling-off moments were too much.
If I have to suddenly put on the raincoat or whatever, I'll just stop for a few seconds.... :)

First time I done it I broke my arm (was 11). Faster you go the easier it is. Was impressed when I went no hands up a hill, down a hill and up another!
  • can do it on my mtb for ages, but am too nervous to do it on my roadie as it is much more skittish. I was wondering tho, am I the only one who finds it a great deal easier to pedal and more powerful when sitting straight up?

Yes, I find a little bit of speed certainly helps. ...erm...... riding faster, that is. Not using illicit substances.
