    Congratulations Cooke!!!

Black mark though Dan777, a poor choice of thread title. "Well done Cooke" would have sufficed.

Awesome Awesome ride. The team rode really really well. Enjoyed it more than the mens race actually. She is just such a strong rider. AND what about Jenny Longo! Pulling massively on the front at 49!

This is a fantastic victory for Wales and GB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hats off to the amazing Emma Pooley who took the stuffing out of the legs of a lot of hot favourites.

Well done! A just reward for years of hard work (and often having to do it all by herself)

Yes well done Nicole and the womens team.
Don't under state the contribution of the team.
They were always in the right place and when Pooley went away, it put pressure on other teams to cover it and let Nicole sit in for a bit.
I cant believe that a rider of the quality of Vos let Cocke slip away so close to the top of the climb, I think Nicole was suprised also thats why she kept looking around at start of that break.
Then the buch hesitated a couple of times letting gap go from 11 secs to about 18 and that is end of story wit 5 riders on a descent.

I would also like to know what happened at the end. I thought Cooke slipped to back of the 5 for the sprint, then cameras changed and when they got round the bend Coocke was a few metres off and had to work to get back. Something must have happened on the bend. If that was the mens race it would have been end of the race.
She was stron enough to get back and led out the sprint which was ok for her as the final metres were suprisingly steep.
The camera angle made it look a lot closer than it actually was.
Coocke has learned from previous experiences and with better team support covered everything and deserved the win.
    Dutch will be gutted :D

I'll bet she had a bit of olympic nerves
didn't she fall on the last corner at the last olympics?

Im pretty sure Nicole Cooke arrived on the climb in last due to the tollbooths which were not caught on camera. I noticed in the mens race the riders had to go through some toll booths near the final bend just before the final climb, it was pretty tight so if she was running a little wide maybe she made the decision to go through the 2nd booth instead of the first.

    great result! :D

She lost at least 30 metres, thats not nerves :D Even if she took the corner catiously she would not have lost that much ground.

Perhaps she thought it was the 7 bridge toll and stopped to pay £5:30 :D
I do not remember her crashing in last olympics? I thought she ended up 4th after her every move was chased down by every team, and she was made to cover all other breaks?

Did anyone notice Longo's ride? She must have rode most of it several bike lengths off the back. I presume that was because she is so bad in a bunch and causes crashes ? :D Some how she still managed to have a go on the last climb and tried to chase Coocke down also.
Just watched highlights and still surprised it was only Cooke out of the favourites who tagged on to the 3 who made the break.
I think Vos was too cautious and was too far back to cover breaks and was relying on team mates and others to bring it back for a bunch sprint.
In my opinion that is of course :D

Longo finished in the late 20s just behind another Team GB rider. Nicole got the 1st gold medal of these Olympics for GB and our 200th in all Olympic competitions.

I thought that she just realised how much faster she was and decided to give them a head start to at least make it interesting for the spectators :D
  • First time I've been able to get to the Forum, well done Cookie!! fantastic ride. Should
be used to the rain coming from Wales!!

Seems the ladies are leading the way, as I have Swimming background I have been
following this closely, and the GB Female swimmers are going great guns. Could
be a couple of medals in the 400F/S tonight.

....... and as for a certain M. Phelps Esq, superb.
