Hello folks ,

I have just rediscovered the joy of bikes again , for the third time in my life .

Loved cycling as a school boy , then 15 years a soldier kind of lost the cycles. When that stopped , I got back on a bike.

After another 10 years as an avid cyclist , both track and Mtb , then we stared a family .
Suddenly the prospect of going out for a ride with only 2 hours sleep did'nt seem so exciting , and the bikes were garaged to gather dust.

Now 10 years on and health issues raise their ugly little head , and I'm back on the bike with a vengance , to lose weight and get the lungs working again .

And I'm loving it !

Hopefully I stay with this game for ever now !!

    Well hello to you!

You are in the right place for all things bike-ish. I think a member called sheepsteeth is/was a soldier, apologies teeth if I'm wrong.

So what bike do you ride - where do you ride it etc...

There is a huge thread on here about a guy getting fit - Its by "oldgitonabike" I think.

Oh I don't know, seems like the only time I get any peace (got a four year old and a 12 week old baby, riding more now than I've ever done, can't think why  ).

Good luck with the fitness thing, it's worked for me this year, lost loads of weight and feel fitter than I was in my early twenties (which was a very long time ago).
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • I have an ancient Canondale Delta Vee 900 hardtail , since 1990 .

I also have a Specialised Centrum no suspension , single speed , which is what I'm spending 90% of my time on.

Its almost as nice to ride as a track bike , but I can free wheel down hills .

I've been exploring the lanes around Ross , and the Forest of Dean cycle trax .
I ride a Raliegh tandem there with my 11 year old autistic son on the back . That is hard work !

    Otherwise , I'm slowly getting there , dropped 4 kg in 3 months .

Ride about 20 miles a day at this stage , but hopefully increase it slowly slowly .
