am pretty new to the road side of cycling (currently looking for my first roadie bike), just wondering what pinarello bikes are like, have seen a nice looking one for sale (2nd hand) and just wondering what peoples opinions on them are

Don't go near them, they're made in the same factory as Bic pens and use the same plastic. Also if you get one and cut the frame open you'll find they stick it together using masking tape, and fill the tubes with smarties to strengthen them.

What a stupid, unfunny and unhelpful reply.

Pinarello are quality Italian frames and well worth considering. Try to get someone with a bit of knowledge to look at the bike before you buy.
  • I have a dogma and its the best frame Ive ever had. What model are you after?
As blackhands said get someone to look at it for you as with every 2nd hand bike, ask the seller if its been crashed and why their selling.Italian made bikes are always classy and well made in my opinion, especially fitted with campag gear

they are nice frames but VERY over priced - If you can get a deal on a second hand one then go for it - I would love one :p

On what basis are they overpriced?
  • its the opera model.
    has spinergy stealth wheels
front and rear mechs are campag record
    aluminium frame/carbon seatpost/forks

    Does this sounds any good?

Opera is like a "sub brand" of Pinarello and they are made in the same factory. How much have you been offered this bike for and what condition/mileage do the frame and components have on them..
  • its on ebay, so will hae to see how much it goes up to. asked the guy if he had a buy it now price in mind and he said he isnt ending the auction early.

Sounds quite good to me, The Spinergy stealths are deep rim with plastic spokes and apparently are not too stiff, however, they are quite areo, which is more important than weight in the vast majority of the time.

The most important thing is that the bike fits you though.
You live and learn. At any rate, you live

That bike is either tiny or a time trialling frame. Check the size, as a road bike there is no way that will suit someone of 5ft 11. The geometery is far too radical, it also has a massive 54/48 front chainring with 180mm cranks which kind of gives the time trial game away!!.. That is a bike that has been specifically tailored for an individual and not a potential first ride for someone.
  • Hi all, what good advise to give, I had seen the bike and it does look the part at a fair price. The seller should say its a specialist bit of kit and not a first road bike.
NO way is this for a novice to go on a weekend fun ride.

Go to a good shop, like Evans and get yourself sized, then with a bit more info go back on ebay!

Mmmmmmmmmmmm Pinarello. I own one and I love it. But yeah that ebay one wouldn't exactly be ideal as a first foray into roadbikes.

Erm, Evans are not exactly "a good shop." Some of them ok but the vast majority appear to be staffed by people who know sod all about cycling - particularly road cycling. If you want a commuting hybrid go to Evans if you want a proper bike go to a proper bike shop. Where are you based, doubtless folk on here can recommend some good local shops for you.
  • If it is in apparently perfect condition and fits someone 5' 10" it is total rubbish and the rest of the cycling community should be protected from such a dangerous machine.

What you should do is buy it, pm me immediately and I'll arrange for it to be disposed of safely. No charge.

You want to be careful about buying things off eBay. I nearly got stung for what I suspect was a non-existent Pinarello Paris. The seller wanted to exchange at a train station ... and when I lost the auction, she mailed me to say that she had another ... It sounded very dodgy, and the user was deactivated the next day.

Not saying that it doesn't work, just to be careful. You only get so much insurance with PayPal, for example.
  • i used to do a lot of mountain biking when i was younger, but want to get into road quite a lot and do some serious riding.
Im based in southampton, so can anyone suggest a good lbs??
