Can't speak highly enough of Hope twins or the new Quad but avoid the single it is rubbish.

As for the others, not really had any experience.

My twin with standard battery has seen me through night rides and dusk til dawn races with no issues

just bought hope singles x2 with one on the bar and one on the helmet was able to ride 90% of daylight speed downhill. for value for money the two lights at £160 gives you 480 lumens which is pretty good .only down side is light is heavy on helmet but i,m using it for night time trials so only have to put up with it for 30 mins .if your looking at 2 hours i wouldn,t bother

you can say that again!! :)

BTW I was only referring to the Hope Single as a single unit, as a pair I can imagine they'd be good

At the moment merlin are doing the hope twin for £134

See, loads of people recommend the singles

I'd definitely recommend the Fenix L2D as a helmet light, absolutely fantastic, using standard batteries, lots of modes, weighs ~50g, 180 lumens and costs £30 odd on ebay.

Just had a look and it seems they're selling the ooutgoing Hope twin light at that price - the new 2009 one is a fair bit more.

Anyone know what the improvements on the new model are?

I am using Lumicycle lights... quality lights. I got mine when they were only doing the Halogen systems... I run two lamps and 10 and a 30. I can't speak highly enough of them. They always get a high rating from the mags.

Lumi's are good lights, mine will be up on ebay soon

Im giving a torch a go, yes you read that right.

It has a c bin seoul p7 emitter, maximum is meant to be 900 lumen but id say it will be more like 6-700 lumen but still a lot of light for just a torch, got one coming from deal extreme for £22 and got 4 cr18650 li-ion cells and a smart charger for £20 on ebay.

Bike lights are an abhorrent rip off tbh.

It's a 10w led so comparable to a 40w halogen id imagine, the beam pattern is meant to lend itself well to biking.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

    Cheers!

I think I'll hang on until the winter, the new Hopes might slip in price a bit once the old ones have all sold.
