Chain clatter.....

Sorry in advance as i know this question will have been asked many times before but im just getting so desperate.
Im running 9sp rear with an deore XT rear mech and 2 rings up front with an LX mech and e - 13 guard with a shimano chain.
Whenever i go over any small bumps / stones / kerbs / sticks, my chain clatters around inside the front mech housing and drives me mad.
Noone who i ride with has this problem, my cheap commuting bike barly does it on the same terrain so i just dont know where to go. i can understand it happening on very rocky trails and over drops e.t.c. but riding along an grassy track and it starts just drives me up the wall.
Is there any way to stop it? i even resort to walking some rocky sections to stop the noise just for a few seconds. iv tried a brand new chain which helped a very small bit but iv run out of ideas.
Any help to put me out of my misery is much apreciated

One of those chain devices with rollers?
The clatter I hear on my bike is the rear mech bouncing.0 -
Ye thanks, iv been thinking about one of those but as far as i can work out it will only tention the bottom half of the chain, has anyone had any experiences with them? do the work for this?

what bike?
do you have a chain stay protector fitted?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

If it is the front mech then you might want to fit on of those front mechs with jockey wheels, cannot remember who does them but there was a review on the front page a while back.0

Nick: The bike is my santa cruz bullit 04 which has an elevated swing arm and yes i do have a chain stay protector but that is not the problem, i dont mind the clunk of the chain on the protector but the clatter of the chain on the mech is what annoys me.
I have shortened the chain as far as i can without loosing any gears and this dosnt help still
Ride whenever - hmmm...What are these that you do speak of? iv had a look and cant find anything like this,
Thanks for the hepl0 -
yes I know exactly what you mean, my chain hits the inside cage of my front dérailleur all the time. It's very annoying. I tweaked my front derailleur to give the chain a bit more room but didn't help much.
If I drop the height of the front mech to stop it banging then I can't shift into the top ringIbis Mojo SL-r0 -
Alex... Yup sounds the same as me, the mech is sat perfectly either side of it and iv tried moving it down as far as i can but the outer chainring stops me putting it right down but its still lower than usual.0
