I came off again last night and spent all night in Casualty.
I'm bandaged up and no broken bones. More importantly, my fixed just got a knock on the brake hood but he'll be ok.!!

I have come off twice this year and am getting hacked off.
How often do you all come off whilst commuting? :?:

Glad to hear the bikes ok :D

    Oh ! and yourself.

To answer the question - only ever once, a couple of years ago. And that was my own fault going as i did speedway style across a wet manhole cover and landing on my bar-ends. Got a couple of broken ribs and a trip to casualty for my trouble. Bike was ok though.
Morning route (when i don't get the train)

    Evening route ,

i've been commuting for 2 years and have had a couple of offs. every time i have one i try to think what i would have done differently.
so far i've been encouraged to wear brighter colours (esp in summer) and buy cleats (one of them was duee to slippery pedals and poor grip on my shoes).

hope you have a quick recovery, mark.
  • back on the bike today :D
you can't keep a cyclist down for long 8)

20 gentle miles as I still have the bandages on

Only time was a few years ago, was going around a corner into a side street from a main road, didn't pick that there was a large area of leaves washed down onto the corner, nice and greasy and so wheels went out from under me with not too much warning.

Picked the bike up with some difficulty and walked the last mile to work, and asked for a lift please to A&E. Xray's revealed a fractured left arm near the wrist, and little finger on the right hand. It was November so was a cold day, I was so well wrapped up ironically I didn't have a scratch, though being so well wrapped up made getting undressed when I got home rather difficult what with being in agony as I troied to pull with either hand.

Had three weeks off the bike before I got back on it again.
'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....

After the most serious bike crash I had (chipped elbow, broken finger, to-the-bone grazes) I didn't ride again for 18 months. When I did get back on my bike, the front wheel started wobbling so aggressively at only about 15mph (presumably my nerves, rather than the bike) I had to pull over, stop, take deep breaths and set off very very slowly. Seems you can forget how to ride a bike.
