Problem with wireless computer

I recently bough a Cateye micro wireless computer. I am having trouble getting this to work on my bike.
When the computer and sensor are disconnected from the bike, I can get the computer to beep (signifying a 'hit' on the sensor) occasionally. However I think this happened about 3 times out of about 50 attempts. This is with the computer facing the sensor, etc.
I've tried both batteries in the computer, and the computer runs fine with either battery. Is it possible the battery still might be too low? Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers!

1. How close is the magnet and sensor?
2. Is the magnet going past the sensor line?
3. How close is the sensor to the computer on the bike?
4. How you tried a new battery in either or both computer and sensor?
If this is all okay as per the instructions, take it back.jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.
