Hi what's a good book to do repairs at home (trying to save £££ rather than give it to the LBS) I've looked at the Zinn book but trying to see if there are others out there that are better!?

I picked up Basic Maintenance And Repair (ISBN 9781579541705, £6.39 at Amazon) a while back and it's guided me through a few jobs where I'd have taken the bike to the LBS in the past. The internet filled in any odd gaps.0

I don't think i'd bother getting Chris Sidwells Bicycle repair manual, i have it and don't really rate it the basics of the book aren't too bad but the layout is.
I have generally found Sheldon Browns website invaluable for the basics and more technical jobs, also shows how to inspect for wear on components so pretty much covers everything for beginers to experienced.

The Zin in my opinion is the best book in that he uses line drawings rather than photos to illustrate the repairs and it's much clearer to follow as a result.0

I've found 'The Bike Book' by Fred Milson is quite good. Lots of very good photos and good explanations. It covers Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo.
It's currently £9.89 on Amazon UK at the minute.
I'm a beginner and didn't find it too complicated.

I've got the Zinn book and agree with onbike 1939, the use of line drawings makes it much clearer to understand what you need.
With a judicious mix of it, Sheldon Brown and the Park Tool website I don't need anything else.0 -
drew - have you looked at a bike maintenance course?
I tried to do stuff from a book and websites (there are some useful you tube maintenance vids), but I was never sure how much I should be tightening and loosening different things etc...... when I tried. But going to a lesson (Edinburgh Bike coop one day intensive) really helped me, and now I can follow instructions ok.
That said I'm not the most practical of people so perhaps if you are practical you'll pick things up from a book easily.0 -

+1 for the EBC course.0 -
don't bother with the Haynes one - it's just a bit too basic.0

the recommended one (above ) is from the edinburgh bicycle co-operative store (- which is a chain of bike shops - not just in Edinburgh!)
