    +2 for Campag Centaur
  • Having this debate myself, like the look of the centaur but the ultegra sl is kinda throwing a spanner in the works, my question to myself is can i justify the extra cost just for looks.

I am in neither camp as to what is better have used both campag and shimano and when set up correctly they are both equally good in my opinion. :)

I find Campag hoods fit my hands better and method of shifting with Campag is better.

    Me too for Centaur
    I like bikes...

To me this is the key thing in favour of Camapg. in my experience campag stays set up correctly far longer than shimano and i also find its lasts longer too.

  • Hi,

I have just taken a full Dura Ace gruop of my bike and replaced it with Campo Cent but with the carbon ultra torque Chrous crank and mechs. Cost £600 from LBS - also swapped out the brakes for the awesome Mavic ones - and i have to say i'm over the moon with the improvements its made. Campag is more comfortable and much slicker to use, i really notice it, especially on short 'blast' rides.

I also moved from a 54/39 to a 50/34 which makes a big difference, but still i'm so please with the decision, i guess its like one of the other posters said its all down to what suits your riding style. I too feel the hoods are more comfortable and better placed than the Shimano ones. The whole bikes just rides better now, but again thats down to my style.

Either way i would say Campo all the way now. But swap those brakes out for Mavics.
  • +6 for campy! The hoods are so comfortable! I've got mine on a single speed just because of the comfort. Mind you, the Ultegra SL is very light, cheap and looks good. Still Campy if you have the money.
