Recommended new tyres for a Dawes Audax light tourer?

I had a slow puncture on the back tyre (a 23cm Schwalbe Blizzard) of my Dawes Audax bike. When I took the wheel off today, although the inside of the tyre looks fine and unpenetrated by any sharp objects, the rubber on the surface of the tyre is completely worn down in a line round the middle just about all the way round. As they are 23cm road tyres, there was no tread as such anyway, but now there isn't even any rubber in places - with light brown inner material of some sort now showing. I don't know how long such tyres should last - I bought the bike new just over 18 months ago, and I've only done about 2,300 miles. As I don't ride particurly fast and don't often need to break hard etc., I would have thought the tyres would have lasted longer than that??
Anyway since I'm going to have to replace it, I'm actually thinking of changing both tyres and putting on 25cm tyres with a bit of tread. I'm sure I was told before that the Dawes Audax could take 25cm tyres. Could anyone recommend a good make with a bit of tread that would be fairly puncture resistant?
