Marin Quad XC mount vision- opinions?

Hi am new to the forum and this is my first post so firstly I'll apologise if I am posting this in the wrong section... lol
However, went to Deers leap park today and test rode a 08 Marin Quad XC mount vision and found it to be very light and surprisingly for the price tag of £2000 odd I was disappointed to be honest with how it climbed and generally performed in the wet. Admittedly the tyres and conditions weren't the best and I found that the suspension components were awesome , I was just very disappointed with the lack of rear grip when I was climbing and how often the back tyre would hit a root causing it to spin the wheel forcing my foot to slid off the pedal and make my knee smack the rear shock mount.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced these type of problems with Marin's before and whether they would still pay that much for a bike such as this despite the problems I had or similar...
Thanks Doug

That'll be a tyre issue, different tyres will change grip, clearly it didn't have appropriate tyres for the conditions. Also was the suspension set up properly for you beforehand?0

Yeah I agree, the tyres that were on it were knowhere near appropriate for the conditions, I forget what they were but seemed suitable for dried out courses, probably my bad luck for picking a wet day to test ride...
Suspension was fine and was fairly firm, just found it didnt climb well. Don't know if adjusting the rear could've helped me a little more though... ?0 -
Yeah sounds like it. These are supposed to be very very good, the back end should be supple and give good traction. Sounds like possibly the propedal was wound in too far preventing the back end from playing?0

I couldn't say yes or no because stupidly I didn't check that.
I had no faults with the bike on any downhill stuff or even the technical sections where the bike was sliding, I had alot of feel from the front and from that perspective I cannot fault it , it just seems a shame that the climbing wasn't great and i felt very frustrated as a large amount of the time I would be going through a difficult section then it would go into a tricky climb and I would lose all grip , the rear would spin up forcing me to lose momentum and stop. Happened about 10 times.0
