Speedplay zeros pedal greasing

Is it necessary to buy the Speedplay grease gun and grease along with the pedals?

    I just bought a cheap once from Evans and some of their lithium grease. When you pump the grease in through the access hole on the pedal, it pushes the grubby old stuff out the other side. Seems to have worked for me!
