Gone fishing - bikie style!

My village has two community owned trout ponds, with a stretch of river linking them. For an annual fee locals can fish them as often as tehy like, provided only so many fish are taken.

Given that I like a nice bit of trout, I figured it was probably worth a punt, and so I went off in search of a fishing rod and reel. Imagine my suprise to find that Messrs Shimano and co have branched out! I am now the owner of a rather natty Shimano fly rod and (get this) an Ultegra reel!

I can now occasionally be seen pedalling my fixie up the valley with a backpack festooned with rod tube, landing net and stuffed with all the bits and peices I need, and some I dont - generally a cool bag with a couple of beers in it.

Shimano made fishing reels before they started on the bike stuff I think.

Didnt know they made Ultegra reels though - does this mean people with Dura Ace reels can sneer down their noses at you?

It's the people with Hardys gear that will look down thier noses at you.
If you bike snobbery gets up ypur nose don't even think about Fly Fishing it is elitism at its worst.

I used to Flyfish most weekends but have been forced out by the sky high prices for a days fishing on the waters near me, £23.00 + and thats even before you think about a boat hire.

I heard that SRAM make spear guns - that's the kind of fishing that appeals to me!

... and LOOK started off making ski boot bindings before branching out to make cleated cycleing shoes and pedals

BSA and Enfield both started out as small arms manufactures before moving onto cycle and later motorbike bike construction

According to the nice man at my lbs cycling is, at least in economic terms, a sideline for Shimano. World wide, the fishing market is vastly bigger.
Put me in my place anyway :)
