Wonder what the story with him and Rabo is? Sounds very much like he's off and there are the constant rumours of blood wierdness (No, someone coached by Cecchini has strange blood? Whatever next)

He'll probably end up at the New Tinkoff.

Did the UCI not issue a statement in the last few weeks that Dekker was not one of the 23 and his blood values were "normal"?

    They did indeed.

So why do Rabo want to bin him? Is Gesink the new Dutch super kid and he doesn't like Thomas?

It's the lack of clarity. Apparently he was pulled out of Romandie after some dodgy blood results appeared but he and the Rabobank team claimed "stomach problems". When they resort to lies to cover up suspicions, it looks very bad.

Would have been better to say he needs monitoring and put him in the spotlight for a week or two whilst he underwent a battery of tests.

He wasn't pulled out of Romandie but quit himself after riding badly in a race he won last year and was supposed to win again.
Why Rabobank is not so keen on him anymore? In the first place because he makes no progress anymore and they have Gesink now; but..... there are the blood result rumours; and..... he's a bit of an arrogant playboy who likes his privileges, and the team is now more into teamplay and tight team controll after trusting individual responsibility ended in last year's Rasmussen affair.

Sorry, it wasn't stomach problems. He was 5 seconds off the GC but pulled out after 24km into one stage because of "fatigue".

It's like getting tendonitus or glandular fever, isn't it?

I had him as my PTP pick in that race, I recall that he was losing 20 minutes a stage and was hours behind when he quit.

I assumed contract re-negotiatons were not going his way at the time rather than stomach issues!

Not quite... he quit with 24 km to go on the final climb when he was dropped by the group after his team had prepared for his attack all day. That really had nothing to do with dodgy blood results and being pulled out; makes no sense. It had to do with being in crap form and all sorts of mental problems; whether that again is or is not related to 'preparation' or no longer 'preparation' is another matter....

He was blown to pieces on the final climb to Zinal in the Tour de Romandie... All week he had been feeling a bit tired from the classics that finished two days before Romandie started... He rode well in the first few stages, but couldnt do it in the TT in Sion... Going into the stage to Zinal his moral was off and he knew he would have a tough job against Kloeden on the last climb... I think to be honest he rode way too hard at the start of the stage, and once the final climb kicked in he was spent.

The only bad thing about the blow-up was the fact that TD made a gesture to the camera when he blew that apparently didnt go down too well back home... i.e. he smiled and made a signal with his hand that he was dead....

  • Guys, there'll be some coverage of this story, and particularly the ongoing row between Thomas and Erik Dekker, in the Procycling Tour review issue.

Promise me you'll avoid the phrase "Double Dekker" and I'll buy the mag

There hve been so many disappointments with my PTP Rabo picks this year I have lost track of which country they were in...

A pre-existing rumour or have you just started it?

  • I asked Jonathan Vaughters about this a couple of weeks ago, and his answer was along the lines of "Thomas needs to sort his situation with Rabobank out first, then think about other teams...."

Make of that what you will.

    Hmmmm.

Are Garmin signing many people? There was also talk of the Mekon maybe going there.

Dekker should go to the New Tinkoff.

Lots of people have linked them with Big Thor, but whether that's anything more than idle speculation. Would be logical to reunite him with Julian Dean though.
  • No Iain, based on his reaction to the rumour when it first appeared a couple of weeks ago, I think it's safe to assume that Vaughters won't be signing Stefan Schumacher. ;-)

Not sure about other reinforcements. Jonathan was meeting "a big name" in Brussels the Monday after the Tour, but he wouldn't tell whether it was Dekker or someone else.

    Watch this space.

Phew - Order is restored. I couldn't see Stefan fitting in there at all.

Garmin could pick up some decent riders from CA or Gerolsteiner.

They did.... : http://www.sportwereld.nl/wielrennen/25 ... obank.html He's leaving Rabobank, immediately, 'but has not found a new employer yet'..... Tinkoff? Garmin?

Interesting rumours on him. He refused to hand over his medical files to the Rabo doctor and his values have been all over the place in the year, resulting in a bust up at the Tour de Suisse.

  • Not just Dekker parting with Rabo, but, at the same time, it has been announced in Holland, that Micky Boogerd has gone, as well.
    Interesting no?
Garmin are very close to signing young Tommy, according to their media.

So they'll have one Ferrari powered rider and a few followers of Cecchini....
