Noise

I've had a problem adjusting the front gears on my Giant SCR 4.0, eventually gave up and took it to my LBS.

Gears now seem OK, but there is a strange noise on the right pedal when I push down.
It always happens at the same point of the revolution and seems to be on the right.

It happens when the crank is at about 1 o'clock.

Do you think it is the pedal or chain set, or something else.

Sorry if question is a bit vague.

Could be your chainset, strip it down and grease the sheel the bottom bracet goes in and the bottom bracket and where the cranks sit in the bottom bracket. If you have look pedals it could be them as well, sadly i dont think there is any cure for that, unless you try buying some more cleats!!

  • Thanks for your reply.

I've got Shimano pedals, and they are, along with the bike, only two weeks old.

Should I be having the above problem with the age of the bike.
  • At only 2 weeks old you should not need to strip it down.

Try pedalling only with left foot to see if noise is still there ( this should eliminate pedal problems - or not).

Put bike on a stand and try to identify any noises.

Then - take it back to the shop to fix it for you!

  • I think it is the pedal, could it be a badly adjusted cleat.

I have adjusted the right shoe a few times, and can't seem to get a comfortable fit with my right foot.

I think the current fit is pushing my toe towards the crank, the noise is there most of the time, but more noticeable when I put a lot of pressure on the pedal.

I've not had chance to adjust them yet, but I think this may be the problem.

I can put the cleat virtually anywhere on the left shoe, and it always feels fine, but my right foot always seems to want to be somewhere else.

    Any thougts on cleat adjustment?
  • I'm guessing you've checked all the bolts to ensure they are all tight? Always start with the obvious. I would take it back to your LBS and get them to check everything.
Cleat wise, you need to sit on the edge of a table, and dangle you legs over the side to see how they hang. You may find your right foot rests at a different angle to your left. That will give you your first clue as to where to position the cleat.
