New to racing, 1st race question to enter question
Hi, i've been getting into cycling more and more and want a crack at a road race, i see cat 4's are the ones to start at. but also there seem to be go-race events. does anyone know if there are any of these in the north west of england? on the BC website they all seem to be in the south east. also are there any equivalent races to the go-race events but sub cat4 (is know this would be a VERY low level)
thanks,
Dan

I think a lot of Gorace events are going to be mostly 4th cats anyway. I'd just bite the bullet and enter either some 4th or 3rd/4th events - if you get shelled out you get shelled out - it's all a learning experience.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
The only thing that would be an easier starting point than a 4ths only race would be a training race if any of the clubs local to you organise such a thing - and even then, depending on who turns up, the pace could be quicker than you'd perhaps expect.
No, I'd agree with Tom - bite the bullet in a 4 or 3/4 and see how you get on. It's fairly easy to hang on to the back of the bunch, but if there's some climbing or lots of corners, then you might struggle with the change in pace/effort required.0 -
You could try TLI races that sometimes have lower speeds and lower entry fees to help new riders to get into racing0

Try a local chaingang for a racing experience without any of the fees or paperwork.
In fact a few of the chaingangs I've been on have been a lot harder than some of the races I've done."I hold it true, what'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost;
Than never to have loved at all."
