Uneven brake pads

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the brake pads on my Shimano XT disc caliper?
As I pull the level, one pad touches the rotor slightly before the otherside.

Any info or pointers to where I can find out would be most appreicated.

Many thanks.

  • Im not entirely sure but you could try tightening the screw on the brakes on whichever side doesn't spring back correctly, I might be wrong though

Loosen the caliper bolts, pull on the lever to centre the caliper on the disk, retighten bolts. Make sure the disc is not being pushed to one side when you do this.

This will work if you've simply not got the caliper centred. It could also be a sticky piston not retracting properly which will need cleaning before you recntre the caliper.

That all said I can't see how one pad hitting the rotor before the other would contribute much to pad wear, that'll only happen if the pad is constant dragging on the rotor. If that's the case same procedure as above.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Thanks for the advise guys. I'dlike to think the piston is not sticking. The bike is 1 year old tomorrow but has no more than 100 miles on the clock, due to injury. (me!)

I'll give it a whirl at the weekend.

    Thanks again.
