Rear mech hanger advice!

Right! I've just received my 2nd replacement mech hanger!!
The last one snapped within 2 weeks. If my chain is too tight would this cause excessive pull on the hanger and if my squewer is to tight could this also cause it to warp and snap??
I don't think that either of the above are the reason for it snapping anyhow!
The mech this time will be a new SRAM X9 2008 (as the old one got eaten by the wheel) and the frame is a GT aggressor 3.0 (circa 2002/2003).
Any advice as to what i may be doing wrong when fitting the part would be very appreciated as i really don't want to get it wrong and snap it again because of the waiting time when ordering the hangers!!!
Cheers, J

I love the sound my tyres make on dusty single track!

They should bolt on fairly tightly, if it is a chainring bolt then if you do it up as tight as you can without using a (specific) spanner to holt the 'nut' part then that should be good. I'd check the mech stops and order some spares!
Chain length might be causing it, shift slowly, on a stand, into big/big cogs, this combination shouldn't be used normally, but if you are accidentally shifting into it and the chain is too short that might be causing your problems.0
