Something doesn't feel right going up hill....
Had a road bike for a couple of months ( Trek), put about 1000 miles on it, but apart from the odd clean and lub, have not done any real maintenance ( wouldn't know how).
Recently the bike has developed what came only be discribed as a slight 'click' when turning the pedals. Can't feel it on the flat, but a definite click every time the pedal turns when under a bit of strain going up hills.
Before I take it back to the lbs, is there anything obvious I should look for ?

I had a similar sound when my chain was about to break - it was fine when I was pedalling away on the saddle but as soon as I got out of the saddle it made a right noise.
As you've done 1000miles already it wouldn't be the end of the world to change your chain (I recommend a KMC chain for the quick link - my chain damage was caused because of the dodgy single use joining pin).0 -
Could be loads of things. I had a similar click that was noticeable going uphill and then became noticeable on the flat as well... as well as looking at the chain as suggested above IMHO try the following.
Go around the bike and tighten up every bolt oyu can find.
Pay particular attention to the seat bolts. take the seat post out and clean and refit it with a dab of grease. Then check the rain ring bolts as well.
Take off your pedals clean and refit the threads with a dab of grease or coppaslip.
Check the cleat bolts on your shoes ( if you have clipless )
If you have a Shimano Hollowtech II chain set sometimes grit gets down between the crank arms and rubs against the bearing shells. So if you are man enough pop the chian set off ( you'll need a Park BB9 tooll or similar ) and clean the gunk of the crank arms and the exterior of the bearing shells.
Also check that the ends of your gear cables are free of the crank arms and are not catching on the crank arms as you pedal.
I would wager its one of the above, it'll just take some time and patience to track it down.0 -
If you have clip in pedles it sounds like one of them . On hills you tend to pull up as well as push down so I bet the click is when one peddle is at the top or just past top , indicating which the faulty peddle is.0
