was just wondering if anyone has done this event before and how difficult it is i did the 60 mile one a good few years ago on my mtb it wasn't that hilly is the 100 mile route pretty flat??????
just think it would be a good goal as i haven't riden anywhere near that distance for quite a while.

Comments

  • Like the 60 miler it spends a lot of its time on the cheshire plains so pretty flat.
It would be a good one to get back into doing the longer distances,or if looking for a fast time.

its pretty easy but a nice ride

last 20 miles can be a bit hairy when the 100mile joins up with all the nodders on halfords mtb's!!

I've done it twice and although it's not too difficult, there's a bit of a climb towards the end, not too hard but with 94 miles in your legs it's a real test of character.

Volvine - when is the race, and could you possibly send me a link to the website for details? Cheers,

Let me guess, 7.20 start? That's what I had the last two years.

That start time is a guide only, they don't stop you from starting early, they just don't want everyone starting at the same time or there will be major congestion. Normally the 100 mile riders start from 7 onwards while the 100km riders start from 8 onwards.

im looking at entering the manc100, i have never raced on a bike or entered a sportive. my background is purely running based, but i do enjoy getting out on the bike as much as possible. i tend to ride for 3-4 hours covering 70-80kms.
the question is? is 100 mile abit to far for my 1st sportive?

You'll be fine. It's flat. Get yourself in a steady group and you'll be round easy.
  • I think I'm going to sign up to the 100KM. Only learnt to ride a bike a couple of months ago and I'm hooked but I don't think my knee's would be too pleased with 100 miles!

EDIT: Generally how late can I leave it before I book? I'm going for a long ride once my new bike turns up which should give me an indication as to weather or not I should sign up for the 100 miler.

To weigh in on the Halfords MTB's, I've been riding a Halfords MTB for the past couple of months and will continue to do so for the next week or so (until my new road bike arrives) however I see no reason for anyone to get upset by someone referring to those who ride Halfords MTB's as "nodders". It is a bit of a sweeping statement, however in the vast majority of cases in my (somewhat limited) experience, it is usually those on Halfords MTB's that are disobeying the laws of the road, riding dangerously, cycling quickly through busy city centres, etc.

    .

Its run by bike events and late bookings normally have their numbers vaialable on the day at the event, you could prob leave it a week before and book online. Then if your pack doesnt arrive before the day you can get your number etc from the admin tent. But to stop any worries I'd enter as soon as.

Th ewebsite says 10 days i think before packs are sent out.

ANd if you do the 60 miler, you will kick yourself for not entering for the ton, so go for the hundred and if you dont feel up to it on the day just bail out and do the 60.

momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.

    It's not a race.

It's double what you've done so you might want to get up to 70 miles before you do the Manchester 100, if you can do 70 then 100 is doable.
