Great energy food for 15 pence.........seriously
I went out tonight for a 40 mile bike ride. the sky was as grey as one of jimmy carr`s jokes and it was raining. it was also windy and a thoroughly minging night to go out biking.
my 15 pence wonderfood was the humble "chomp" bar. i had a litre of water in the back of my jersey and 4 chomp bars. total spent was 60 p
up and down hills , riding into wind and glasses steamed up because of the bl00dy rain. and my legs felt just fine. came in with a very satisfying 18 mph average .
ever try chomp bars , for 15p , what a steal.

Each 25g Bar will provide you with the following:
Energy - 110 Calories
Protein - 0.8g
Carbohydrate - 15.9g
Fat - 4.7g
strangely they're not on the Cadburys' website....0 -
I swear by Geobars myself, Fairtrade and seem full of energy. 30p each. Apricot especially nice. But theyre all good.0

Hi folks.
You'd be better off with a banana - costs about the same.
Cheers, Andy0 -
mmmmm chomps. Though personally I would say 4 chomp bars is perhaps a bit excessive for a 40 mile ride.Cycling - The pastime of spending large sums of money you don't really have on something you don't really need.0

Asda value Malt loaf 20 pence each - for that price it will feed you for 4-5 hours surely can't be beaten0
-
bananas cost the same? only if you can make it tesco ... more like 49p in any number of newsagents "promoting" healthy eating with one of the stupid fruit stands.
I will try the chomp.
I like the giant bags of figs from holland and barret. cost about £2 for about 70 of the swines. makes a horrendous smell into the deal!0 -

do you preslice, or just chomp on into the whole brick? What about a buttery topping?
(i have a wonderful image of someone cycling handsfree whilst preparing themselves a little malt loaf snackeroo now...)point your handlebars towards the heavens and sweat like you're in hell0 -
Shows as 10p here - out of date piccie?
Can't say I have ever seen/had one, are they good as well as tasty then?

+1 for malt loaf
As it sticks everywhere(teeth, gums etc), you can be eating one slice for about 10mins too0 -
+1 malt loaf.
Just chomp into the brick. If you're good, you can open the packet single handed. Nutritionally pretty identical to a powerbar!
Malt loaf's greatest advantage is that you can perform all kinds of crimes to it (freeze it, drive your car over it, etc.) and it will stil be edible :-)

they're a bit like CurlyWurlys but not as stretchy!
I was at an event at the Lowry so popped over to the "outlet centre" opposite, there's a cadburys factory shop and I got about 25 for £1.50 (or something equally silly). I had to hide them in the boot so they survived the journey home yyyyyuuuuummmmmm!0 -
i'll stick with me jelly babies. 78g of carbs per 100!!0
-
yeah, wouldn't be without them..................bonkbusters!!0

If you're not bothered about "fat", a handful of peanuts provide a huge amount of energy for a small size/weight - they also provide a nice savoury contrast to 500ml of fruit juice on a 40 miler.0

I'm a malt loaf muncher as well. I did a 100 mile ride Saturday before last and ate a whole loaf together with some cereal bars. I was pretty sick of the stuff by the end though. I don't butter it due to the unnecessary fat but it would definitely help it go down!!_______________________

Malt Loaf all the way! Great stuff. In fact it would make a good name for a rock group...
Could also be used as a weapon against errant motorists - could you imagine Cippo throwing a malt loaf brick at a passing motorcyclist? Would've taken him out for sure!0 -
and malt loaf lasts for months when kept in a placcy bag, just wont go off/stale/mouldy!0

Or at least, it will still be as edible as it was before

Yeah, im a big fan of the malt loaf too, but with Geobars you have 4 different flavours so can have a bit of variety at least. Or i often take a plastic container in a saddlebag, stuffed full of dried fruit.0
