hello all,

on the ride to work this morning all was going well until i went to change down a gear then CRUNCH! my rear mech hanger snapped sending the mech into the back wheel.

all is well though- the mech hanger did its job- noting bar the hanger was damaged.

this has howver left me with a slight problem- i cannot source another hanger, anyone got any ideas? or does anyone know or any other compatible ones?

Cheers

Oh boy, talk about lightning striking etc...

That is the exact same thing that happened to me on the exact same bike, I'm sorry to hear about it as I how how fustrating it is.

Fortuneately I live live in Sheffield where there is a Decathlon store: they have a 5 year warrenty on the frame and 2 years on the parts and they gave me a replacement without any quarrels: I take it from your post that you don't live near a Decathlon store and they don't do mail order.

I had a friend who said he swapped his hanger on his winter Decathlon frame to his other Giant bike and he claimed it worked as they were "roughly the same shape", but whether or not you want to botch it is up to you. I hope you get it sorted.

By the way, it's not possible to just bend it back to the original shape, is it, or is it irrepairable?
  • cheers for the reply,

I called decathlon and spoke to somone who was very unhelpful. i bought it in Sep06 so im guessing this would still be covered by warrenty woohoo. ill go in and play hell! did you have to take the bike back or just go in and have them hand the hanger over for you to fit yourself? the latter would obviously be much easier.

Im afraid it cant be fixed, i must have put some force through it because it snapped clean in half!

I took the whole bike in, I know it's a bummer but I think that's how they do it, I think they're unlikely to just hand over the part. If you still have the receipt they might just but I'd would play safe a take the whole bike to show them you're a Decathlon bike owner.

    Good luck with it!
