Orbit cranks

Posted this post on MTB forum also as Orbit does sponsor a MTB team in France I believe. My friend has the only pairs of these cranks in the United States. He swears its basically cheating by using them. He uses them for RR only and actually has two pair. Yes, they're expensive and heavy, but do they work? Any opinions/comments appreciated. Also need any info/links to be in English. Thank you!

    I can't see it being an advantage, so you get smaller chainrings because of internal gearing, which weighs more and introduces more components and friction in the drivetrain. Ultimately you use the same energy to achieve the same speed as an equivalent gear on a conventional crank, plus extra energy to drive the additional components.....I think :?

    But then they have done tests... so that proves it then :roll: :wink:
