disc brakes rubbing

basically, i got my new bike rockhopper comp
when i spin the wheels i can hear the discs rubbing at one particular point as though the disc is bent or the wheel?
i tried to re align the calipers but that made it worse!! it was rubbing the whole way round. i took it back to the shop and they fixed it a bit! but is this normal?
also i am not that impressed with the stopping power of these brakes compared to my mates.. that are much older?
these must be bedded in by now too, done 70miles.
any ideas peeps?

Could be the brakes need to be bled a bit more, you tube has some good guides on doing it yourself. Disc shouldn't rub at all, check everything is square, wheel in frame properly, then attach mount to the frame, fit the caliper on to the mount and you should be able to move the caliper side to side and find the best position- hold a white piece of paper behind the caliper, it makes getting equal spacing easier. Hope some of that is useful!0

both of mine used to do that but that was because I had a bent driveside fork stanchion and a bent offside seat stay. Rubbish luck. Anyhoo, cast an eye to make sure your forks are parallel (which offsets the axel -> disk) and check the tracking of your frameTrain hard, ride easy0

might also be worth re-torquing all the bolts. I expect one loose bolt or a bit of grit where the disk meets the hub could offset the diskTrain hard, ride easy0
