Hi am the new owner of a 2005 Kona Dew
I am using it for commuting and also taking the lttle one out on the back. I also want to use it to go out road riding/training on a night. The bike has come with a shimano tourney chainset which looks to have the mtb gear ratio's (42T/34T/24T) and has a square taper BB. looks like this was changed on the newer models to a fsa chainset which has bigger chain rings
Looking to swap this over for a triple road crank with bigger ratio's

1. Can this be a striaght swap or should i get a mtb chainset which i can change the rings on (any suggestions on which one cheap as poss)
2. will i have to change/ move the front derailer
3. Will i have to change the rear derailer/ chain length and if so how do i work the length out.

Oh and its a 8 speed rear if that makes a diffrence to the chain line etc.
Regards G

The ratio's you quoted are slightly bigger than normal MTB ones which generally speaking are 22 32 44
There is a Shimano set thats bigger again with IIRC a 48 T outer ring and corresponingly larger smaller rings...
